Italy enters phase 2

On Monday 18th of May stores re-opened in Italy, and some of the restrictive measures of the last weeks started to be alleviated in one of the most impacted countries by the Covid-19 pandemic

This week the country is starting to re-open the economy and attempting to adapt to the "new normality", learning how to coexist with the virus and trying to avoid new cases as people go back to the usual workplaces and businesses re-open.

For retail it is beginning of a new stage as well. Stores have opened Monday and should guarantee certain safety measures such as social distancing (at least one meter between people) and limitation of the number of people inside a store in each moment. Naturally, opening is not an obligation, and those businesses not wishing to open will not have to do it. There are indications that roughly 30% of all retail stores have not opened as they prefer to wait and see how the situation develops.

As the measures de-confinement began in Italy, the number of infected continued to decrease slightly. The daily number of fatalities increased slightly and now the total toll is approaching the 30 thousand. Half of the new recent cases of infection were registered in two regions, Lombardia and Piemonte.
